Talking Turkey With Conservatives

Sarah Robinson over at The Campaign For America's Future does a fine job of outlining what we non-Wing Nuts can expect from our FAUX News-watching relatives over Thanksgiving dinner this week. She also helps craft defenses, replies, and ways to turn basic false premises like "liberals hate America" on their heads in clear and simple ways that even people who can't see shades of gray can understand.

For example, liberals "freed the slaves, passed child labor laws, built schools and colleges, gave the vote to women, enacted civil rights laws, rebuilt Europe after a war we helped win, and put a man on the moon. All of these were progressive projects—and all were fought tooth and nail by conservatives in their time, simply because they feared change and saw power as a zero-sum game."

In other words, if there is an America we hate, it's the one in which slavery was legal and women were denied the right to vote. If your relatives prefer America the way it is, you can graciously accept their thanks because your side overcame massive resistance from their side to right those past wrongs.
