John McCain hedging his bailout bets
I suspect John McCain is hedging on the bailout bill. He's weighing the value of joining the House Republicans in their opposition to this very unpopular (and, unfortunately, very necessary--see WaMu) bill. He's thinking about voting no and riding into the presidency on a tide of bailout discontent (all the while hoping the worlds banking system doesn't collapses until after November).
It wouldn't be the first time John McCain has hedged on huge decisions with politics in mind. Remember he primed himself for the surge's failure too, despite claiming it was all his idea. It will be interesting to see what John McCain does here. We are all waiting and watching. Which is exactly how John McCain, the drama queen that he is, wants it.
Update: TPM confirms that John McCain is indeed ready to throw in with the House Republicans and back an even more ridiculous plan. Country first, my ass.
Update II: John McCain owns today's market sell-off.
