Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto assassinated
The news is old at this point, but the reactions to Bhutto's assassination are still filtering in. Bhutto was flawed, but she was a beacon and counterweight to the cloud Musharraf holds over Pakistan. Her assassination is tragic. Al Qaeda has already taken responsibility, but if they are ultimately responsible for her death I would bet Musharraf and his military gave their tacit approval. For far too long Musharraf has been looking the other way and allowing al Qaeda, the al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11, to flourish. Al Qaeda, and the Taliban, may have motive, but Musharraf also gains. I could be wrong about Musharraf, serious people will surely disagree, but his role must be considered.
