The Gonzales Sideshow

Today in the Washington Post the ever-prepped, -handled, and -embattled attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, tries to get ahead of his own congressional testimony with an op-ed mea culpa that's as laughable as all his statements that have come before. The self-professed CEO of the Justice Department claims detachment, disinterest, and all around incompetence as his excuse for the firing of the quite competent and engaged US attorneys.

The attorney general would like us to believe that he "did not -- and would not -- ask for the resignation of any U.S. attorney for an improper reason." And you know what? Maybe he wouldn't, but his puppet masters would, and that is where the spotlight must shine. Alberto Gonzales is already a footnote in this story. It's time to get the true author of this scandal, Karl Rove, on the stand.
