They write letters

My head spins. Yesterday, on Capital Hill, seven GOP senators circulated a letter demanding that party leaders (Democratic and Republican) open up debate on the very same anti-escalation resolution that most had voted to block just a few days before. In this letter the bi-polar GOP senators were quick to affirm that a flip flop had not occurred, despite their caving to the party line on Monday, and that they were willing to go forward today, so long as the same muddy-the-water techniques the GOP tried before get tried again.
The Republican senators attempted in their letter to clear up the apparent contradiction. "Monday's procedural vote should not be interpreted as any lessening of our resolve to go forward," the senators insisted. But they voiced the GOP leadership's view that other resolutions should receive an equal vetting.

"The Senate should be allowed to work its will on our resolution as well as the concepts being brought forward by other senators," the letter stated.
In the end this attempt to save face with the voters, five of the seven are up for re-election in what promises to be another anti-war election year, rightly fell on deaf ears as "too little, too late."

These flip flopping senators should be ashamed. They caved to the president, they caved to Dick Cheney, they caved to the party, and now they want back in the game. Sorry Senators, you can't have it both ways. Enjoy your war and your free time come election day.
