Just looking for an excuse
The Washington Post today has an extremely disturbing story discussing a new Bush policy authorizing the U.S. military to "kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq." This policy, along with other "military, intelligence, political and diplomatic strategies" across the Middle East, are meant to "weaken Tehran's influence across the Middle East and compel it to give up its nuclear program." Such a policy may also backfire "if Iran responds with escalation."
With Bush's incompetent track record I'm betting on escalation long before Iran gives up its nuclear ambitions. Which is probably exactly what the administration wants, seeing as how they are "urging" deadly force to be used.

Though U.S. forces are not known to have used lethal force against any Iranian to date, Bush administration officials have been urging top military commanders to exercise the authority. With time running out, and their preemptive credibility out the window, Cheney & Co. need a spark to ignite their long longed for war with Iran. As Raw Story chronicles, a war that has been in the planning stages since Cheney, Libby, Wolfowitz, Khalilzad ran the show under George H.W. Bush. A plan to make the United States the sole super power and dominating influence in the Middle East for years to come. A plan that I am sure has nothing to do with their lust for oil.
