You Don't Matter
His hubris is astounding and he's accountable to no one.Cheney said that even with pollsters predicting that Democrats would likely make gains in both houses of Congress Tuesday, voter sentiment would not influence Bush's Iraq policy.I know at this point I shouldn't be astounded, but has any other elected official in the history of this nation ever been so disdainful of the the American public as to dismiss them so offhandedly? They think they are right, and that's the end of the story. But, you see, they have been wrong so many times that their concept of right is off-the-bat wrong. Even with a Democratic win on Tuesday this administration will not listen, they will not reassess, they will not acquiesce to the will of the people. No, instead they will fight harder, divide more, and generally spit on the voters who have demanded a change.
"It may not be popular with the public — it doesn't matter in the sense that we have to continue the mission and do what we think is right. And that's exactly what we're doing," Cheney said. "We're not running for office. We're doing what we think is right."
