The secretary of defense was on the defensive today.

“This is complicated stuff. It’s difficult. We’re looking out into the future. No one can predict the future with absolute certainty.” He added, “So you ought to just back off, take a look at it, relax, understand that it’s complicated, it’s difficult.”

They have been so wrong, so many times, trying to predict the future that it's simply amazing how Rumsfeld expects a pass here. He wants a pass for the bungling of the entire war. Tell the dead to back off, Mr. Rumsfeld. Tell the families of the dead to relax, Mr. Rumsfeld. Somehow, I think they know it's complicated. Somehow, they know it's difficult.
