So much for safer

More terror news. It seems back at the end of July German authorities found two suitcases containing bottles of gasoline, propane gas and a detonating device which were "primed to go off and kill a high number of people." A domestic terrorist organization is being blamed. Now, I bring you this story not for the obvious oh-my-we-are-all-going-to-die headline. Nor am I going to comment on the fact that the Germans thwarted a terrorist attack and it wasn't plastered all over the media for days on end (though I suspect it will be now). And I won't even mention how incredible it is that Karl Rove didn't politicize this event as we have come to expect (I guess he was waiting for the London bomb plot to start his election tirade). No, I bring you this terror news for this quote only:
The terror threat in Germany isn't considered to be as high as in the U.K. or U.S. because the country didn't take part in the U.S.-led war in Iraq, the government has said.
Call me crazy, but wasn't the Iraq war supposed to make us safer. I guess the target on our collective backs is just as big, or dare I say bigger, than it was in 2002.

Bloomberg has more. And thanks to Memeorandum for the story.
