Limp Dick
Is Dick Cheney going soft? Has the leader of the military-first gang lost his nerve? Yes, is the quick answer, but let me explain. The country is North Korea, the issue is blowing to bits a missile the North Koreans have fueled and ready to go. A missile that has the potential of reaching the good old US of A. One idea being floated today as an option for dealing with the growing missile crisis is this:• William Perry, defense secretary in the Clinton administration, advocated a strike on the missile on its launch pad. "Diplomacy has failed, and we cannot sit by and let this deadly threat mature," wrote Perry and former assistant defense secretary Ashton B. Carter in Thursday's Washington Post.A preemptive strike, very Cheney-like, wouldn't you say? So one would figure the VP would be all preemptive gung ho. Think again.
• Vice President Dick Cheney said North Korea's "missile capabilities are fairly rudimentary" but that developments were being closely monitored. In an interview with CNN, Cheney rejected Perry's suggestion for a preemptive strike. "I think the issue is being addressed appropriately," the vice president said.Huh? I guess a country that doesn't have oil, doesn't get bombed.
