Insurgents as cut-and-run cowards


It seems even the Iraqi insurgents want a timetable for the withdrawal of American troops. And it looks like it's a reasonable timetable to boot. Read on from the Associated Press:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Eleven Sunni insurgent groups have offered to halt attacks on the U.S.-led military if the Iraqi government and President Bush set a two-year timetable for withdrawing all foreign troops from the country, insurgent and government officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Why is it so outrageous to talk about timetables anyway? If the home-grown insurgents know we are leaving, as we see above, wouldn't that take some of the fight out of them. Leaving al Qaeda, arguably making up only a small percentage of the fighters anyway, to fight alone. With the most likely outcome being that the Iraqi people themselves turn and fight until al Qaeda is gone as well. Obviously the civil war aspect of the fighting would still be an issue, but the troops can't do much about that anyway.
