It couldn't be any better titled

"Revisionist History". Think about that for a minute.

That's the title of a bunch of poppycock written by Peter Wehner, the deputy assistant to the president and director of the White House's Office of Strategic Initiatives and which was published today in the WSJ. And boy, oh boy, does he deliver some revisionism. All I've got time for now is the opening sentence, but any reasonable human being could devote a thesis to all the spin and inaccuracies in this baby. It is a masterpiece of crap.
Iraqis can participate in three historic elections, pass the most liberal constitution in the Arab world, and form a unity government despite terrorist attacks and provocations.
There are 3 points here, let's go through them one by one.

1) By defintion, every election is historic. Nothing of special import in this statement. It just sounds all big and important.

2) The "most liberal" constitution in the Arab World is not exactly impressive. It's like saying of the 3 pieces meat left out in the sun for weeks, the one left out the fewest number of weeks is the 'best smelling'. It's still a constitution that is based on theology, not democracy and requires the subjugation of women, among other provisions.

3) "(F)orm a unity government" - my ass. First off, W and Condi recently decided that the interim Iraq PM, Jafari, was not adequate and they sought to have him replaced by Maliki. Does that sound like:
a) "A unity based democracy run in accordance with its people's wishes" or...
b) "A puppet government being controlled by the US? " <----
Also, the Sunnis constantly have to be begged, cajoled, and otherwise forced to participate in the legislative process. Not quite the definition of "unity government", is that?

I'll try to return to this later. But go ahead and read the rest. It's really quite entertaining; this document is to Iraqi Reality what The DaVinci Code is to Catholicism.

btw, Red Sox 9, Yanks 5. Game two tonite!
