Goss Darn It
Big news just, if an hour old can count as "just," hit the wires out of the White House. The CIA director, Porter Goss, resigned today. Wow. It's all very interesting and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The initial reports attribute his resignation to the current White House "shake-up." I'm not so sure. If this resignation was called for as positive-shake-up-publicity, then why did they hold the news back until Friday afternoon? There does NOT seem to be political planning behind this move. So, I'm tempted to think this is more Goss related, than Bolten related. If the resignation is part of the shake-up, I can only figure they thought Goss was a big enough fish to fry to get people off Rummy's back. But again, if it's a political, poll-number-saving move, where is Rove with the publicity planning on this?
The story behind the story here should be interesting.

Update: More speculation from Peter Daou, Josh Marshall, Think Progress, and FireDogLake. This could be bigger and sexier than even I thought.
Update II: Hardball is reporting that Goss was fired. Crooks & Liars has video of Norah O'Donnell linking Goss to the emerging Hookergate story.
