Blind Representation

Jim VandeHei has a decent, if not slightly timid, piece in today's Washington Post regarding the CIA leak investigation and how it's soon to be reckoning time for Karl Rove. It's a worthy read, if only as a refresher, in case you haven't been able to keep up on all the ins and outs of the investigation. Here is a bit of self-serving absurdity from the article that made me grumble when I read it:
Robert Luskin, Rove's lawyer, responded that "just because Rove was involved in the defense of the White House Iraq policy, it does not follow that he was necessarily involved in some effort to discredit Wilson personally. Nor does it prove that there even was an effort to disclose Plame's identity in order to punish Wilson."
To the first highlighted statement: Um, yes it does. Karl Rove makes his living discrediting people. Discrediting, demoralizing, demonizing, and destroying people is all Karl Rove knows how to do. He's not an evil genius, he's an evil bastard. I guess Luskin hasn't spent too much time getting to know his own client.

And to the second highlighted statement: Are you fuckin' kidding me? I understand Luskin has a duty to defend his client, but come on. Luskin, who by all reports is a smart man, should know better than to throw out a line like that. Even if Rove had no involvement --a big HA! to that big IF -- it's pretty clear that Cheney threw a hissy fit over Wilson and the order went out to destroy him. An order which included a total disregard for national security by outing an undercover CIA officer who was working on tracking the influx of WMDs into Iran. Arrgh!

Thankfully, there wasn't much more of that one-sided crap in Vandehei's piece. Read more.
