All of the Above
This will be my last Goss post, I promise.* I was hanging out over at that mainstream liberal blog, dKos, reading all the speculation regarding the resignation, firing, pink-slipping of Porter Goss, the now former director of the CIA, when I came across this little gem by Gooserock. First, here is the set up: The problem with the Goss resignation was not the resignation itself. All the reasons spun and parroted by the media could be valid. Incompetence and turf wars are both fine reasons for taking an axe to the back, but it was the suddenness of the firing that has everyone questioning, "what is up?" If this was a planned release, as the spin suggests, why the abruptness of it all? Now, even if it was the whores that broke the camel's back, there was still no need to shock the establishment with a hastily called, ill-planed, Friday press briefing. So, again, why all the abruptness? Take it away Gooserock:
Could It Be Both?Done, end of speculation.** Goss was told, or heard through the grapevine that he was a goner (for all the reasons above). Maybe, they were working on a "political plan" for the announcement, and Goss said, Fuck it, screw you. I'm leaving now. Right now. You guys deal with the mess." He left pissed, and he left an ill-prepared White House swinging in the wind on a lovely Friday afternoon.
When I found I was going to be let go from a fast food job, I preemptively walked out unannounced at the height of lunch rush.
I'm just sayin'....
*This may not be my last Goss post... I had my fingers crossed when you read that.
**I still need to know why Bush appeared with Goss on Friday. The fact that Bush appeared with Goss makes me think whores may not be involved. If whores are the cause, Bush would have been kept far far away.
Update: The NY Daily News is pretty much convinced it was the whores, the poker, and the taint of it all.
Update II: More speculation... is it possible that they fired Goss due to pressure from the foot-soldiers at the CIA? It has been widely reported that the analysts at the CIA were overwhelmingly anit-Goss. They resented the leak crackdown. They resented the political changes Goss had made. They resented the gutting of the agency. So, did the spooks revolt and call for his head? Think about it. Someone, or a group of someones, at the agency threatened to go public with even more Bush lawbreaking and embarrassment. The liberal--Clinton loving agency--blackmailed Bush. "Fire this man, or we go public." And Bush caved under the weight of his skeletons. Okay, I'm done...
