In the Interest of Full Disclosure
I've been wondering since this latest Fitz leak nugget broke last week what it takes for an officially classified document to become declassified. It seems ludicrous to me that if King George simply decides to declassify something, *poof*, it's done - nothing to see here. The questions that come to mind for this include:
Well, at least Media Matters agrees with me on this, even if I can't find anybody else who does. They put together a list of 8 questions for the administration that everybody should read.
I seriously think this is the "follow the money" of Bushco. This is my quest.
- Is there a database that government employees can access to determine if a document is classified?
- Are there different levels of classification, such as "Top Secret" and whatnot?
- Is there a converse process that classifies a document?
- Is there any legislation defining classification/declassification processes?
- Is there any legislation defining the proper use of or access to classified materials?
