Misleading War

There is a new Gallup Poll out and finally a majority of the American people believe the Bushes lied us into war. From Editor & Publisher:
Over half (53%) now say the administration "deliberately misled the American public about whether Iraq has weapons of mass destruction," with 46% disagreeing. Gallup notes that this finding is "essentially reversed" from one year ago.
It is now time for our elected officials to stop considering the "L" word a bad one. George Bush LIED us into Iraq, there is no way around it. The Democrats must start screaming it from the rooftops. The poll numbers have given them cover, now is the time to use it.

What was that you say? Where is the proof that our imperial leader lied us into war regardless of the facts on the ground? Fine, I'll give you some stinking proof. From today's Guardian:
A memo of a two-hour meeting between the two leaders at the White House on January 31 2003 - nearly two months before the invasion - reveals that Mr Bush made it clear the US intended to invade whether or not there was a second UN resolution and even if UN inspectors found no evidence of a banned Iraqi weapons programme.

"The diplomatic strategy had to be arranged around the military planning", the president told Mr Blair. The prime minister is said to have raised no objection. He is quoted as saying he was "solidly with the president and ready to do whatever it took to disarm Saddam".
No, this is not the same old Downing Street memo that was widely ignored last year. These are new revelations. George Bush really better hope the GOP is able to hold onto Congress this November because otherwise a Democratic Congress, with subpoena power, is going to bring this president down.

Downing Street more.
