The Moral High Ground Has Been Ceded

As if torture and kidnapping terror suspects and bombing innocents and starting wars of aggression based on lies weren't morally repugnant enough, it now appears that the Bush Administration has found yet another way to cede the moral high ground to our enemies: snatching the wives of suspected insurgents and holding them as collateral.
The U.S. Army in Iraq has at least twice seized and jailed the wives of suspected insurgents in hopes of "leveraging" their husbands into surrender, U.S. military documents show.

In one case, a secretive task force locked up the young mother of a nursing baby, a U.S. intelligence officer reported. In the case of a second detainee, one American colonel suggested to another that they catch her husband by tacking a note to the family's door telling him "to come get his wife."
Kidnapping innocent people, including nursing women, is a terrorist tactic. There is no arguing this point. There are rules, even in war, and once again the fascists in power think that they are above them. It is un-American. Hell, it's in-fucking-human, is what it is.

Be appalled, then read more.
